GAYTHEIST
Gaytheist — Hold Me…But Not So Tight
Gaytheist on Facebutt
Good To Die Records

Tim Hoff (bass), Nick Parks (drums) and Jason Rivera (vocals/lyrics, guitar) are the fellows responsible for creating our favorite album of 2012, Stealth Beats.  They have figured out the formula for creating music that I love: Their latest effort, Hold Me…But Not So Tight, has been on constant rotation since I received my copy.  I like how their band page on Good To Die Records’ website puts it:

Secret Gaytheist song formula: Jason has a quick story to tell + must do so over rad riffs = Gaytheist song

The formula is simple yet true.  Jason has great stories and they have very rad riffs.  If you have been sleeping on this band now is the time to wake up.  They are starting to get the respect they deserve: Being invited to play in some major festivals this summer (Sled Island, Capitol Hill Block Party, MusicfestNW), they are a must-see band in a live setting.  If you don’t have plans this Friday, make sure that you catch their album release show at Black Lodge w/ Monogamy Party, Glose and Android Hero.  Purchase your own copy (either traditional black or white/pink colored version) over here –> Gaytheist – Hold Me…But Not So Tight

SAVAGES
Savages – Silence Yourself
savagesband.com
Matador

Have you ever discovered a band that you absolutely fall in love with and run to the internet to see if they are coming to your hometown in the near future only to find out they just played there?!?! That happened to me with Savages.  I can’t believe I missed the chance to see them come through the PNW.

SAVAGES MANIFESTO #2

SAVAGES is not trying to give you something you didn’t have already, it is calling within yourself something you buried ages ago, it is an attempt to reveal and reconnect your PHYSICAL and EMOTIONAL self and give you the urge to experience your life differently, your girlfriends, your husbands, your jobs, your erotic life and the place music occupies in your life. Because we must teach ourselves new ways of POSITIVE MANIPULATIONS, music and words are aiming to strike like lightning, like a punch in the face, a determination to understand the WILL and DESIRES of the self.
This album is to be played loud in the foreground.

MADLIB
Madlib Medicine Show #9: Channel 85 Presents Nittyville
Madlib Medicine Show
Madlib Invazion

Picked up this album Sunday afternoon and have been playing it since.  If you are unfamiliar with Madlib’s Medicine Show series click on the link above.  It is a very cool project and I wish I had them all (so far #1, #9 and #11 are in the collection).  It is a hip hop album that features M.C. Frank Nitt. It says on the website that it is a loosely-based concept album around an obscure TV show, Nittyville, running on Channel 85.  The album was released in 2011 but it is very fresh to me.  This album is the perfect summertime album and I suggest any fan of hip hop or Madlib give it a listen.  Pick up a copy over here –> Madlib Medicine Show #9: Channel 85 Presents Nittyville

Grenades In Bellingham 5/31!

GRENADES

You would think that after 5 days of partying and shows at Sasquatch would deter me from doing anything concert related for a while, right?  WRONG!  Grenades is coming to Bellingham to play a show at The Shakedown tomorrow night!  If you haven’t heard their new album, Heaven Is Empty, get on it.  You don’t want to realize one of your favorite rock records of the year could have been witnessed live and you blew it.

Torche – Keep Up

Torche will also be gracing us with their presence at Sasquatch this year.  Their 2012 release, Harmonicraft, has been on heavy rotation since I picked it up (we had it Under The Needle in March).  Today I caught wind of a new track by this Florida crew called “Keep Up”.  It is the A side of an upcoming 7” from Volcom Entertainment (read more over here).  Even though they got stuck with a 2PM slot at Sasquatch, they are one of the bands that I am most excited to see!
