Matthew Dear — Beams
matthewdear.com
Ghostly International

About six months ago GRISL featured Matthew Dear’s Beams (HERE). This hauntingly aggressive electro-pop (or whatever you want to call it) album has been on continuous play ever since. Whether you’re zoning out to the beats or throwing a dance party, this album doesn’t disappoint. Beams starts off with the light and ethereal track, ‘Her Fantasy’ only to quickly drop us into deep tracks like ‘Earthforms’ and ‘Headcage’. But don’t worry, we can groove out to tracks like ‘Up & Out’ and ‘Get The Rhyme Right’. This is a show not to be missed. Pick up a copy for yourself over here –> Matthew Dear – Beams

Dirty Projectors — Swing Lo Magellan
dirtyprojectors.net
Domino

If you didn’t know who the Dirty Projectors were after their 2009 release Bitte Orca, you were probably living under a rock. The harmonies, instrumentals, lyrics, and Mr. Longstreth’s intriguing tone all lead to one thing… damn good song writing. They’ve become a favorite over the years and their 2012 release Swing Lo Magellan just keeps the momentum going. Listen to ‘Gun Has No Trigger’ and ‘Dance For You’, and you’ll be ready for this show too. Buy your own copy over here –> Dirty Projectors – Swing Lo Magellan

Dead Oceans

Yes, I am aware that a new Akron/Family album just came out and this one is from 2011. I am new to the band and a friend recommended this as a starting point. They play a brand of folk rock music that is dipped in crazy psychedelics. If that sounds like something you might dig, I suggest you start off with this album too. From what I hear, they put on a hell of a show in a festival setting and the Gorge is the perfect festival setting. Pick this bad boy up on some wax –> Akron/Family – S/T II: The Cosmic Birth And Journey Of Shinju TNT

Japandroids — Celebration Rock
japandroids.com
Polyvinyl Records

This duo from Vancouver played a couple of years ago on the Yeti stage. They told the crowd that they had lost their gear and just landed from a lengthy flight back from Spain. Borrowed gear and all…they rocked hard. They were incredible, the crowd loved them. That was all before the release of their Celebration Rock album. This is an album full of tracks that make you want to put one arm around a friend and drink a beer with the other. You will not want to miss their set this year. You can buy your copy over here –> Japandroids – Celebration Rock
